The Wellness Tree (Grow Your Wellness) Program of the International Council of Nurses offers assessment, intervention and advocacy tools for behavioral changes that address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) or unhealthy lifestyles including unhealthy diet, tobacco use and lack of physical exercise. These will support nurses and their patients in taking actions that can lead to a longer, ‘healthy-life’ expectancy. It also teaches nurses to become champions and role models by taking actions that can lead to healthier lifestyles and a longer, ‘healthy-life’ expectancy. NCDs include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, some cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and mental health conditions.
At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
1. Describe wellness;
2.Appreciate the global impact of non-communicable diseases;
3.Perform Health Risk Assessment to clients;
4.Utilize various NCD Intervention Tools that are individual and community focused;
5.Plan and monitor goals to determine if health outcomes for NCDs are achieved;
6.Contribute to local and national efforts to fight NCDs: Wellness Tree program.
